Spring 2012 Student Government & University Co-op Rebecca Carreon Scholarship

To help fellow Longhorns, the University of Texas at Austin Student Government and the University Cooperative Society (University Co-op) partnered to create a scholarship fund. The two entities mandated that all proceeds from the sale of the Longhorn boots at the right would be repurposed to help exemplary UT students in need.  Formerly known as the UT Student Government-University Co-op Boot Scholarship Fund, the scholarship was renamed be the Rebecca Carreon Scholarship in Fall 2008.

The scholarship monies must be used toward educational expenses at The University of Texas at Austin; such expenses include but are not limited to tuition, room and board, and textbooks. The number of scholarships dispersed each spring will fluctuate based on the yearly revenue from boots sold at the University Co-op.

Every current student at The University of Texas at Austin who is continuing in the fall 2012 semester is eligible to apply for a scholarship through the UT Student Government-University Co-op Boot Scholarship Fund, with the exception of current representatives, agency directors, and executive board members of Student Government.

These scholarships will be granted on the basis of need and merit, and interviews may be required.  The scholarship application can be found in the Student Government Office (SAC 2.102), and online at www.utsg.org.  Applications must be completed and turned into the Student Government Office (SAC 2.102) no later than 4:00PM on Friday, April 20, 2012.  No late applications will be considered.  All questions related to the scholarship application and process can be directed to External Financial Director, Madison Gardner (madison.gardner@utexas.edu).

The UT Student Government-University Co-op Boot Scholarship Fund represents a tangible effort by the UT Student Government to give back to the University community.  These scholarships also illustrate the University Co-op’s mission of advancing the educational interests of the University.

“Find A Space”: Online Space Database Debut

Need to find a space for your meeting, event, or program?

Student Government and the Dean of Students announce the launch of “Find a Space,” a new online tool to help student organization leaders find meeting, event and program space on campus. We understand that on our large campus it can be a daunting task to find the perfect place to hold an event or meeting, so we have worked together to create an online space database inclusive of both classrooms reserved by Student Activities, Department rooms, and special use spaces like the University Unions, Student Activities Center, Texas Performing Arts, and Recreational Sports.

Features include:

  • Search mechanism: minimum and maximum capacity, location on campus
  • Filter: commonly requested items like (moveable chairs, stage and projector)

In addition, once a space is located the tool allows you to click on “details” to view images and contact information to assist you in making the reservation.

The tools can be found:

For more information or to add a space to the database, please email info.utsg@gmail.com.
